GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Doctor Micheal Landrum, infectious disease specialist at Bellin Health, has been dealing with viruses for years, but has never seen anything like COVID 19.
A common argument against closing Wisconsin schools and businesses, is we don’t do this for the flu or other recent viruses.
Landrum’s response…
“What makes this instance different is just how sick it makes people.”
Landrum says the odds of death from the common influenza is 1 in a thousand. For COVID 19, the odds are more like one in 50.
And, it’s tough for scientists to get a handle on
“What was said one day is potentially obsolete or incorrect the next day.”
While not ready to call this pandemic something that will change the way we live forever, he does say we had better learn from it and be better prepared for the next one.
“Something that we have to consider, that something on this magnitude and scale really will have some type of effect even after it’s gone.”
In the short term, stay at home, keep up the social distancing and the good hygiene.
