GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The majority leader in the state assembly is running again.
Kaukauna Republican Jim Steineke made that announcement Monday morning on WTAQ’s “The Morning News with Matt and Earl”, he says the agenda of the administration of Governor Tony Evers should be opposed.
“Things like [Evers] expanding the welfare state, infringing on second amendment rights, unchecked government spending,” Steineke said Monday morning. “These are the things that really make me feel compelled to run again.”
He says he would like to work with the governor on issues they agree on.
“We can continue to work on the things we agree with him on,” said Steineke. “But really [I] serve as a voice for the people in my district to make sure some of these liberal agenda items do not get done.”
Steineke was first elected to the assembly in 2010 and became majority leader in 2015.
“It’s a difficult decision every term, it’s not a decision that I take lightly,” Steineke said. “I desperately think we need to continue to have a voice in Madison that serves our constituents up here.”
