APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Common Council will not debate the future of “The Collective” artwork on Wednesday, as planned.
“The Collective,” created by Paul Bobrowitz, is made from propane tanks. Each tank looks like a face and is assembled together to create a head. Some residents have criticized the piece, located on East College Avenue.
Last week, the council’s Municipal Services Committee recommended removal of the piece on a 4-1 vote.
It’s on the agenda for Wednesday’s Common Council meeting. But in a social media post this afternoon, the city says no vote is expected.
“Whether or not to move the piece to a new location is on the agenda for the Common Council meeting tomorrow night. But, we’ve been given word that it is going to be referred back to staff by one of the Common Council members. That means there will be no vote on moving the statue tomorrow night and it will come back at a future meeting. So anyone planning to attend to speak in favor of or against moving the statue, you are still welcome to attend the meeting, but there will be no discussion or vote on the statue at Wednesday night’s meeting.”
The topic has not been placed on any future agenda at this point.
