OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Impeachment was a big topic at 6th District U.S. Representative Glenn Grothman’s town hall meeting in Oshkosh Monday.
He also touched on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, and the border wall.
It was standing room only at the Congressman’s town hall in Oshkosh, and nothing was off the table.
When it comes to the impeachment of President Trump, Grothman made it clear, he’s against it.
“All of the air is being sucked out of the room by this impeachment inquiry, and I think that, quite frankly, that is the goal of people who, quite frankly, wanted to impeach President Trump before he was even sworn in!”
The Republican voted against both articles of impeachment last month.
“There is nothing there that would rise to the level of removing President Trump, not even close!” Grothman said.
Grothman’s opinion wasn’t echoed by everyone there Monday, though, and caused somewhat of an uproar.
“It’s unfortunate we have to go through it,” the Congressman said. “There are a lot of important issues, including immigration, that we should be taking up in Washington.”
One of the issues Grothman says impeachment’s overshadowed is the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade deal.
“The Canada-Mexico agreement – that was just supposed to be between Canada and Mexico, and it inadvertently provided a lot of benefit for more Chinese imports, as well, so it’s a good thing.”
The USMCA overwhelmingly passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support, just a day after it voted to impeach the president.
“You know, sometimes he may tweet a little bit, but he’s sure getting a lot done!” Grothman said about President Trump.
As for the construction of the border wall? President Trump reportedly wants to divert $7 billion from the Department of Defense to build more of it.
This is also something the Congressman agrees with.
“It’s costing us a lot of money for welfare benefits, sometimes we have a problem with healthcare; paying a lot of healthcare for these people coming here illegally, and I’m sure it’s going to be a cost-savings in the long run.”
Congressman Grothman held two other town halls Monday in Burnett and Oakfield.
