BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An agreement has been made between the Oneida Nation and Brown County to secure the new interchange along Highway 29 near the intersection of County VV.
If you’re familiar with this intersection, then probably know it isn’t the safest corridor for drivers.
“It’s always difficult for people pulling out in front of you and it’s hard to get on the interstate,” said Ken Holewiaski. “Over the years there’s been a number of accidents so it will be a good move for safety. “
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation installed a j-turn at the intersection back in 2013, but as the village of Hobart and Howard continue to develop it was time to consider other options.
DOT Project Manager Dan Segerstrom tells FOX 11…
“The j-turn did work for several years but as the traffic gets busier out there and the increase in congestion, the interchange is looking like a better option.”
Now that the Oneida Nation has agreed to let Brown County use a portion of their land along Highway 29 for the project, contractors are expected to start construction in the spring of 2021.
“It’s going to be a classic diamond interchange, it is very similar to the 29 and FF interchange, which is just down the road from there,” said Segerstrom. “VV will go on top on a bridge and there will be 4 separate ramps that will get you off the highway.”
The interchange project is expected to be completed in 2022 and will be funded by nearly $20 million in federal grant money.
