GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Starting Friday Green Bay Police are going to be on the hunt. The hunt for drunk drivers.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” effort starts today. It will run until January 13th.
“Officers [will be] on the streets every day looking for impaired drivers,” Green Bay Police Commander Kevin Warych told WTAQ. “We want to make sure our roads are as safe as possible.”
Warych says extra police patrols will be out in problem areas throughout the city during the holidays. With new technology and programs running to prevent drunk driving year-round, Warych says there’s no excuse to get behind the wheel after drinking.
“There’s always alternative means for people not to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol,” said Warych. “A designated driver, using a rideshare program, or using the newly implemented Safe Park initiative.”
The Safe Park initiative allows drivers to get a placard from their bartender allowing them to stay parked overnight without worrying about getting a parking ticket. It’s being done in conjunction with the Brown County Tavern League and began in October.
The voucher only works in the city of Green Bay. They’re void in times of extreme weather and are only valid for one night.
