GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Packers are getting into the annual Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign in a big way.
Hats, helmets, jacket and of course, footballs. They were all the canvas for autographs.
“We have a whole Packer room at my mom’s house that is just autographs, signed Jerseys packers pictures,” said Jenn Bronk from Greenville.
A line wrapped through the Lambeau Field Atrium as Rashan Gary and Darnell Savage signed fan gear to support the Salvation Army.
“I think we’ve got the most loyal fan base that’s for sure,” said Dustin Blazer who came from Sheboygan to have his helmet signed.
With every $20 bill put into the red kettle, came another happy fan.
“I’m getting a helmet and then if I can go through again a canvas I got made,” said Blazer.
Bobby Anderson tells FOX 11 he just moved to Green Bay from Georgia seven months ago. He was dressed in his custom cheese-head and “team owner” jersey as he waited to get his new Packers jacket signed.
“I moved back to Green Bay for my love of the Packers.”
Ryan Fencl, Packers outreach specialist, tells FOX 11 the season-long event kicked-off with the two team rookies.
“What better to start the autograph signings than with the two first-round draft picks this year. We don’t always get to have two first-round picks so just the fact that we have them this year.”
Some fans came because they already have a connection to these players.
“I follow Rashan Gary, being a Michigan fan and that’s where he played his college days, and I’m excited about Rashan Gary,” said Blazer. “I’m excited to get them [autographs] now while they’re young and under the radar.”
Aaron Rodgers has said he will match all donations raised this between the Salvation Army and the Packers up to $50,000.
There will be four more signings. The players have not been announced for them yet.
