GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The trial for a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and her mother has been postponed for the fifth time.
Jacob Cayer is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide for the June 7, 2016, deaths of Sabrina Teague and Heesun “Sunny” Teague.
Cayer was scheduled to stand trial October 7th. Cayer’s competency has been a continuing issue in the case, with several delays for psychiatric evaluations and treatment – and is the reason for the latest delay.
Last week, Cayer objected to a psychiatrist’s report that he is incompetent to stand trial, meaning he doesn’t understand the proceedings and assist in his own defense.
Those findings were to be discussed at a hearing last Friday. But after prosecutors asked for more time to prepare, the hearing was canceled and the trial was removed from the calendar, court records show.
The parties are expected to be in court later today for a status conference.
Cayer faces six charges in all, including an attempted homicide count for allegedly stabbing Joel Kennedy during the incident at a Hobart home.
