GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The relocation of coal piles along the Fox River is back in the news as a downtown Green Bay district is throwing its support behind the idea.
The On Broadway board of directors drafted a letter of support, encouraging the relocation of the C. Reiss coal terminal operations.
Earlier this month, the city of Green Bay asked the state to provide $1.5 million to study the feasibility of moving the coal piles from the site, just south of Mason St., to the soon-to-be decommissioned Pulliam Plant.
The city believes removing the coal piles from the current location would raise the property’s taxable value by about $100 million. City leaders also hope property values would rise in the nearby neighborhood.
On Broadway is asking residents who support the relocation of the coal piles to sign its petition to show support for the study.
