GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – It’s back to school and that means the school buses are back on the road, and that means drivers need to be ready.
“They have grown custom to not seeing them for the last couple of months.
Green Bay Police Department says they will be watching drivers to make sure they follow the rules when it comes to school buses on the road. Commander Kevin Warych says there is one violation that is very common.
“That stop sign that they have on the side of the bus is considered a stop sign and they have to stop.”
He says drivers need to get used to driving yellow on the road again, and that means starting your day earlier if needed.
“We just want drivers to take a few extra seconds, slow down and give bus drivers some space so kids can safely cross the road.”
Bus drivers are able to track acts of violations and report it to the police.
“They have the ability to document information and document violators and that is forwarded to the police department.”
Warych says they do follow up on reports.
“School buses are carrying countless children. They could be your children and they could be my children, give them space.”
