APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – With the start of the school year, Valley Transit is offering transportation for students.
General Manager Ron McDonald says not every student bus rider in the Appleton School District rides the yellow bus.
“Sometimes these are people who live too close to the schools were yellow busing is not available, or maybe they do school choice and busing is not available where they live.”
McDonald says that is where Valley Transit comes in. He says the school year brings quite a few city bus riders.
With a student ID, students at the Appleton Schools or Fox Valley Tech can ride to and from school free.
It also helps those who don’t go home right away in the afternoon.
“If they are involved in extra-curricular activities, by showing their student ID’s, they can hop on the city bus at night for free and still get home.
McDonald says there are times when they have to send additional buses out to pick up a large group of people. Middle and High School riders make up a majority of their student riders.
