OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A popular Christmas tree farm in Northeast Wisconsin has changed hands.
Dave and Mary Vander Velden announced Friday, they sold Whispering Pines Tree Farm in Oconto to the Yeska Family on June 3.
The Vander Veldens established the 16-acre tree farm in 1984. Visiting the farm during the holiday season is a tradition for many area families to find and harvest their Christmas trees.
The Vander Veldens say they have been working with the Yeskas for several years and promise a seamless transition this holiday season.
The Yeskas, Dan, Ken and Randy, raise many crops at their Wild Rose farm, including Christmas trees, potatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, jalapeno peppers and canning goods.
While the farm was getting new owners, Whispering Pines won many honors and awards over the summer.
During the National Christmas Tree Association meeting last month, Whispering Pines learned it will supply Vice President Mike Pence’s Christmas tree in the Naval Observatory in 2020.
And on Aug. 16, Whispering Pines entered one of its Majestic Firs in the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Association. The farm won Grand Champion and will harvest a tree for display in the governor’s Conference Room this holiday season.
In 2016, Whispering Pines presented the official White House Christmas tree to the First Lady, Michelle Obama.
