GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – After two shots-fired incidents this week, investigations are underway.
“We have two incidents in two nights of people pulling out guns and shooting at other people. That’s a huge concern for us as a police department,” said Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith.
He tells FOX 11 officers collected evidence and want the public’s help. The first happened on Cherry St. Monday evening.
“A vehicle pulled off to the side of the road and fired several rounds at the occupants of another vehicle that was passing by.”
He says the department thinks those involved in that shooting knew each other and had some sort of argument.
“We don’t believe anybody was hit.”
Fast forward to Tuesday night where police got called for gunshots at Kennedy Park.
“There was a group of about 10 young males who were having a conversation, an argument ensued and one of the individuals pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds at another individual in the crowd.”
Smith says officers don’t have reports of any injuries and those involved left the area right after the shooting.
A day after the incident Charles Payton is enjoying his time on the basketball court at Kennedy Park.
“I’m usually here three times a week… probably play for about an hour and a half every day. It’s usually quiet,” said Payton.
He says even after the shooting, he’s not concerned.
“Pretty chill, safe environment.”
Smith says around this time last year, the department had 11 incidents of people shooting, that included shooting in the air, ground or people. This year that number is at 13.
