GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Debbie Rohloff was ordered Wednesday to stand trial for allegedly leaving a dog in a car in the Lambeau Field parking lot, where it died of overheating.
Rohloff waived a preliminary hearing on a felony charge of mistreatment of an animal causing death. She also faces a misdemeanor for intentionally failing to provide food.
Arraignment is scheduled for September 16th.
Officers were called to the Lambeau Field parking lot on July 12 for a report of a dog locked in a hot vehicle. The golden retriever was found unresponsive in the car. It was taken to an animal hospital where it was pronounced dead.
Police said veterinarians tried to check the dog’s core temperature but it was higher than the thermometer could read.
According to the criminal complaint, Rohloff told police she was at Lambeau Field for a meeting and admitted she left her 5-year-old golden retriever, Kayley, in her vehicle for “a long time.” She said she had no excuse.
