GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The city of Green Bay is taking notice of some struggles local businesses face every day.
More than 100 businesses answered 10 questions about the challenges they face, safety concerns for the area, and what type of resources their business could benefit from.
“So it was important for us to get feedback on things so we know we are focused on the right things. It was just a good way to check the business climate of our community.”
Wendy Townsend is Green Bay’s Department of Community and Economic Development.
“A lot of time people come in and get busy with their business and don’t even realize there are resources they can use. So part of our survey was to educate them about those resources to make it easier to do business.”
Just in the last couple of years, there have been a number of businesses forced to close up shop.
On Military Avenue there are a handful of vacant buildings, and they’ve been empty for quite some time.
“We lost the big ones and both were different scenarios, but sort of the climate of shopping is changing. The smaller businesses here are just moving to other locations or growing,” explained Leah Weycker from the Military District.
But overall businesses gave the economic climate of Green Bay an average score of eight, with 10 being the highest.
Townsend tells FOX they’re now using this data to work with those businesses to make improvements.
“What’s neat about Green Bay is we have different districts and a lot of those businesses belong to those districts. So like anything else if you’re working alone it’s very difficult, but if you work together things come together.”
