MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Manitowoc Police say an employee at Manitowoc Tool & Manufacturing allegedly stole more than 50 tons of aluminum worth nearly $200,000.
Police are requesting ten charges of theft by virtue of employment against Derrick Cherney.
According to a police probable cause statement, “Cherney stated he started performing the thefts to pay for vacation, rent, and to pay off debt.”
Cherney managed raw materials and coordinated their delivery to various facilities, but allegedly arranged for a friend to haul aluminum coils to a scrap yard, and then split the money with that friend, the police report says.
The total poundage of aluminum coil was 106,061, with a total loss to the company of $197,724.58.
