GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Nicolet Bank Tall Ships are coming to Downtown Green Bay this weekend.
Leicht Memorial Park might resemble a scene out of Pirates of the Caribbean, as vessels as big as 170 feet and 495 tons dock through Sunday.
In fact, the ships are so massive and so tall, that one almost couldn’t get into the port.
Amy Shadian with PMI Entertainment Group gives an overview.
“We have nine beautiful ships coming, six of them are available for the tours,” says Shadian. “Which your general admission ticket allows you to board those ships.”
While if you want to spend a little more, you can opt for a more unique experience.
“We also get to have three special ships that take sail away’s,” she explains. “So if you buy a sail away ticket it is an extra ticket, but it allows you also general admission into the regular event.”
The ships are obviously the main attraction, but there is so much more going on.
Friday night there is a fireworks show, which starts at 9:30, and no ticket is required to come over to Leicht Memorial Park and watch the spectacle.
The entire weekend is family-friendly and there’s an extra incentive to bring along the kids on Sunday.
“Sunday, of course, is tickets to our family day, so kiddos are only five-dollars, face painting [and] balloon animals all free,” says Shadian.
And with all the maritime fun, you’ll be sure to work up an appetite.
“Saturday, we’ve got a land versus sea cook-off,” she explains. “So, some of our local land chefs will battle against some of the sea chefs for bragging rights.”
Not that it’ll be hard to miss, but keep an eye open for the world’s largest rubber duck.
Mama Duck is 61 feet tall and 69 feet wide.
