GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – According to one member of Congress that represents northeast Wisconsin, the political scene in Washington is becoming increasingly polarizing.
“Let’s face it, Congress is divided right now,” says U.S. Representative Mike Gallagher. “There’s a lot of name-calling going on social media every day.”
Because of that, he says that it’s become extremely rare for politicians to work across the aisle and pledge their support to any effort that goes beyond party lines.
With that being said, Gallagher has identified one health care issue that he thinks both Republicans and Democrats can get behind in the near future.
“Specifically when it comes to prescription drug prices,” he says. “I think we have an opportunity to do something productive, possibly in a bi-partisan fashion.”
He says the issue can be felt in Washington, Wisconsin, and all over the country.
Increasingly, prescribed medication is becoming something that an alarming number of families simply can’t afford.
“Prescription drug prices are placing an incredible burden on families in northeast Wisconsin and across the country,” he explains.
Specifically, about a quarter of people are feeling the bind.
“Nationally, for example, it’s been reported that nearly one in four Americans have a hard time affording the price of prescription drugs,” explains Gallagher.
What’s even more worrisome for the Congressman, is that this trend is seemingly going in the wrong direction.
“To make matters worse, studies show that prices are only going up,” says Gallagher. “Cost increases, in my opinion, are unsustainable.”
He adds that there needs to be more transparency overall when it comes to health care and the costs associated with various services.
