MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) – An aluminum cookware company has announced plans to close their Manitowoc facility, which would eliminate 145 jobs.
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nichols says it is never easy when businesses shut down and that is the case with the employees of Tramontina USA.
“There is a heartfelt sadness for those affected whose livelihoods are dependent on it.
Production cost increases, higher tariffs, and consolidation as determining factors in the closing of the Brazilian company.
Mayor Nichols says the owner of the building does not plan to close up for good.
Tramontina did not own the building and Skana Aluminum is already looking for a new tenant.
He says they have known about the plans to shut down production for a while.
He says Manitowoc has many jobs available and many would fit the skill sets of Tramontina workers.
“Manitowoc has a very low unemployment rate and we have plethora of local businesses that are adding jobs and are hiring.
The companies workforce in Texas is also being cut by 100.
Tramontina has been manufacturing aluminum cookware vessels since 2005, will close.
