APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The manager at Mead Pool in Appleton said they don’t keep any official data about how many people come to swim each day, but the rain hasn’t deterred anyone from swimming.
“It’s surprisingly not affected attendance all that much,” Tristan DeBruin, Mead Pool manager said
“We’ve still been getting people through. We’ve closed a few days here and there, but that’s to be expected at an outdoor pool.”
Some swimmers said they’re disappointed with the amount of rain there has been.
It feels like I can’t really do as many things as I want to. Like I’m missing out on things,” 12-year-old Colten Van Rooy said.
Appleton has had 8.62 inches of rain since Memorial Day. That’s three inches more rain than in an average year.
Appleton has seen rain on 22 days since Memorial Day.
That’s a normal number of rain days, but it means when it has rained this year… it has poured.
“There was a couple times at pools that we came and then had to get shut down right away because of weather,” Corey Essler, a father said.
“It’s kind of frustrating to me. It’s more frustrating for the kids because they get all hyped up. I understand the weather, but for them, it’s like okay so we’ve got to go home. They’re all bummed, and we’re on vacation so now we have to find something for them to do indoors.”
Despite the rain, people are still coming out to the pools.
“It’s rained a lot, but there have been enough days where you can still do stuff like swim,” 11-year-old Jake Putzner said.
