One of the best parts about Summer in Wisconsin has to be the lakes we have. The fact that we have so many lakes around here just makes up for the six months of winter that we unfortunately also have. Our job the past couple of weeks was to check out the lakes people suggested that we go to and rank the top five that we found….not too bad of a gig! Luckily, just in time for the warm half of Summer, we now have the final five!
These lakes are pretty cool because no matter what you want to do out on the water, there's one here that'll fit what you're looking for. Unless what you want to do is illegal. In that case, we don't want to be a part of that. We just want everyone to have the Summer of a lifetime!
Alright, let's get started!
5.
Long Lake
Long Lake is in Brillion, WI. This may not be the clearest lake in the world, but it's Wisconsin, we take what we can get. This one sits right in between Brillion and Reedsville. With a size of 127 acres, and a max depth of 38 feet, it's definitely the place to go in the Summer if you like tubing, kayaking, or fishing. The cool part about this lake is that no matter what you're looking for, you can find it here.
If you wanna get some fishing done and don't want to be bothered by the pontoons or speed boats, no worries. There's quieter spots on the lake as well since it is so long…hence the clever name. If you're really not into the water but just like taking pictures on the dock, you can get that done too on one of the three docks!
One of the other bonuses of the lake is that there's a little park area and some spots for you to grill out with plenty of shade. This isn't a bad spot to spend a Saturday!
4.
Devil's Lake
The views from Devil's lake are pretty hard to beat. I mean look at that, it's pretty awesome!
Devil's Lake is in Sauk County, WI, just a couple miles south of Baraboo, WI. This is for sure one of the bigger lakes, but not the biggest on the list. This one comes is at 369 acres and the deepest it gets is 47 feet. The lake got it's name because of a Native American name, Tawacunchukdah. Now don't worry, you don't have to Google it, the name translates to “Spirit Lake”. Spirit Lake sounds like a better place to go than Devil's Lake anyways.
If you're not into the scenery of the lake, there's plenty to check out when you see the rest of
Devil's Lake State Park. The bluffs are definitely worth checking out! Besides the fishing, there's so much to do! You can go scuba diving, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, basically anything you'd need out on the lake, they have you covered. That's not even all the other things you can do just around the state park. No matter if you're twenty minutes from the park or three hours away, it's worth the drive.
Kangaroo Lake was one of the favorites on the list. To check out this lake you'll have to head over to Door County. Also, don't forget to swing by a couple wineries on the way back! Kangaroo lake is the largest lake in Door County, but also one of the most shallow. The lake comes in at 1,156 acres and only 12 feet deep. This place got it's name because the lake it literally shaped like a kangaroo, no joke.
If you're looking for a pretty calm lake, this is the place you should be headed to. Since the lake is pretty shallow, it's not really made for big boats, but that's what we like about it. All the boating info that you need is right
here
. The part that got us excited about the lake is how clear and calm the water is.
This is honestly just the perfect lake to go hang out on the boat and chill. There's also plenty of fishing that can be done out here if you're looking for Panfish, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, even Northern, and Walleye.
2.
Cedar Lake
Cedar Lake's coming in at #2 on the list! This lake's located in Kiel, WI and is definitely a hot spot in the Summer. This place really does have it all for you. There's a separate boat launch, a beach, restaurant, a fishing dock, and our favorite part….a tiki bar! The lake's 136 acres, with the deepest point being 21 feet.
We take a pontoon out on the lake each Summer and those are some of the best times! In the Summer you always see a lot of boats, kayaks, and even some jet skis out ripping around. Also, make sure to bring your fishing pole, whether you're just hanging out on the dock or on the water, you can catch some nice fish out here!
The beach might not be the biggest, but it's a good time! Plus, just up the hill is
The Lake House
, which has food and good drinks! What more could you ask for from a lake?
This lake came in at #2 because it has something for the parents and something for the kids. Parents can go grab a drink while the kids head over to the water!
Here we are….down to our favorite lake this Summer.
1.
Elkhart Lake
We can't say enough about this place! Have you seen the water? For real, look at it again, no this isn't a picture from Mexico, this is Wisconsin. Elkhart lake is located in….you guessed it, Elkhart Lake, WI. The lake spreads 292 acres and is 119 feet at the deepest point. There's a boat launch so you can test out your fishing skills or you can head over to the beach!
The beach is part of the
Fireman's Park
, they open up Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, daily from 10am – 8pm. It's honestly really cheap to get in too, absolutely worth it. Do you know what the best part is? Carry-ins are allowed! Just don't be one of those people that brings in glass, no one likes that person. There's so much to be said about the lake, from the people, to the kayaking, even the drive out there's pretty cool! We can't wait to go back!
We hope that these suggestions become a part of your Summer plans because they're for sure a part of ours. So grab the kids check these places out! We can promise you they won't forget.
Or here's another idea….grab your friends, your coolers, and just have a good time!
