APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – School is out for summer and that means many are hitting the water.
That means it is time to think about safety.
Dani Englbert from the YMCA of the Fox Cities says safety starts with supervision.
“Make sure that you are supervising your children and that does not mean with a book or an Ipad. Make sure you are actually in the water with them.”
Whether it is an indoor or outdoor pool, Englbert says certain activities are always dangerous.
“Some of those games where you say, hey I am going to hold my breath as long as I can underwater, those are actually dangerous games to do.”
In addition, she says outside the water may not be as clear so it will be difficult to see what is below you when you jump in.
“If you are in an indoor pool, you can see the things that are below the water.”
Along with that, it is also important to know the conditions of the water that you are swimming in.
