GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – It’s going to be a busy Saturday in Green Bay, but organizers of the Bellin Run say they have a veteran team assembled to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
It’s all hands on deck for the event which has over 10,000 participants.
“We’re at 10,641 registrants for our event,” explains Kelly McBride Moore, Bellin Run spokesperson. “So, that’s just about on par with what we might normally see.”
According to her, they’ve seen an influx of registrants this week and that largely can be attributed to a positive forecast for race day.
“There are certainly those for whom, hey, if it’s not a nice day, maybe they’re not thinking they’ll go out to participate,” says McBride Moore.
As of now, the forecast is predicting a high temperature of 79-degrees on Saturday with mainly sunny skies and it should be in the mid-’60s around race time, which is set for 8 a.m.
Organizers hope the pristine weather conditions persuade most participants into sticking around for their post-race entertainment that will be located at Astor Park.
“We will have Big Mouth and the Power Tool Horns playing there, starting just about 8:30 a.m. when our first finishers are starting to come thru that area,” she explains.
While race participants and community members are enjoying the entertainment, a dedicated group of volunteers will be busy at work to get the area back to normal.
According to Moore, that process starts as soon as runners begin to cross the finish line.
The goal is to make the surrounding streets as easy to navigate as possible in a short amount of time.
“Certainly by noon you wouldn’t even know, driving down Webster Avenue, you wouldn’t even know there was a race there that day,” says McBride Moore.
And organizers understand that this year, even more than others, it’s vital to keep traffic moving considering the other attractions that day.
“There’s a lot going on, but it will all be wrapped up in time for people to go see Paul McCartney,” she says.
