GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – There’s been a major buzz about Paul McCartney playing Lambeau Field for months now and it’s only ramping up with the concert drawing near.
Tom Smith is part musical sage and recently, part tourism advisor, as store manager of the Exclusive Company in Green Bay.
“We had a family of five from Philidelphia who have been in town for at least two days and came in just for the show,” explains Smith. “They’re asking us what things to check out in town.”
According to him, Beatles albums and cd’s always sell well no matter what, but the uptick in specifically McCartney music has been noticeable.
“People [have been] coming in, actually for months now, buying certain things in particular because of the show,” he says.
In fact, he’s been noticing excitement about the concert dating all the way back to the winter.
“Christmas time I can’t tell you how many people asked me if I was going to the Paul McCartney show,” explains Smith. “It was just crazy.”
So while the buzz has been circulating for quite some time, it’s unmistakable that excitement has grown to another level with the show just days away.
Smith says the Beatles always are a top seller at their shop, but anything McCartney-related has been hot this week.
“People just getting like the Wings Greatest Hits cd or Band on the Run cd,” he says.
In terms of who is coming in and looking to pick up some memorabilia, Smith says it’s truly all ages.
“It’s young people buying it too, but for some of the older people, maybe taking them back to their youth when they first go to a record store and buy a Beatles or a Wings,” explains Smith.
For those still looking to go to the show, but currently are without tickets, it’s been reported that prices are dropping and secondary markets have a surplus to sell.
As of Tuesday, Ticket King in Ashwaubenon said they have around 100 tickets left to sell with their cheapest options priced at around $75.
Sir Paul is set to take the stage Saturday night starting at 7 p.m.
