GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – For a fourth time, the trial for a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and her mother in 2016 has been canceled.
Sabrina Teague and Heesun “Sunny” Teague were both allegedly killed by Jacob Cayer at a Hobart home, while another man was also injured in the knife attack.
On Monday, a five-day trial was scheduled to begin, but it has been removed from the court’s calendar, according to online court records.
On June 12, a motions hearing is scheduled and among the issues that are expected to be discussed is a new motion from the defense to suppress statements Cayer made while at the hospital.
Cayer told the police, according to the motion, “I plead the Fifth, get out of here” yet officers questioned him about the murders.
Prosecutors have not responded to the motion and it does not specifically state what comments Cayer made about the incident.
The June 10 date is at least the fourth trial date which has been scheduled and Cayer’s competency has been a continuing issue in the case, with several delays for psychiatric evaluations and treatment.
A judge denied Cayer’s request to represent himself at trial two weeks ago.
