ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Construction on a new housing development could soon be underway in Ashwaubenon.
Village leaders say they’ve been working on the Aldon Station project for quite some time.
“As a village standpoint, we feel the need to diversify our housing stock over time. We have a pretty good supply of our single-family housing units, but we want to make sure we diversify that so if there are changes in the market, whether that be millennials, empty nesters, baby boomers, they can stay in Ashwaubenon if they wanted too,” said Aaron Schuette.
Aaron Schuette is the Director of Community Development for the village and tells FOX 11 the development would include 145 units of townhouses, apartments, condominiums, and duplexes.
“Ultimately approval is at the village board level, but it does fit in with our comprehensive plan for the growth of the community.”
He says if the plans are approved, construction on these 22-acres of land could begin as early as this fall.
“As you probably know, this land was historically used for truck storage, repair, and maintenance for Schneider and it sat vacant for years. So we see this as a way to activate some land that was really underdeveloped.”
Radue Homes will be the construction company heading the housing project.
“Ashwaubenon itself doesn’t have a lot of room left to develop, so they’re looking for a more compact urban design so it’s a great spot,” said Ryan Radue.
Schuette believes the project is just what the area needs to expand.
“This kind of creates the best of both worlds. People can live at Aldon Station and take advantage of the Ashwaubomay River Trail which we will be extending through the area and connecting it to the park.”
Final action is expected to be taken on this plan during a public hearing at the end of June.
