MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) – A Manitowoc double murder suspect plead not guilty on Wednesday by reason of mental disease.
35-year-old Karl Hess allegedly killed Richard Miller and his daughter, Jocelyn, on September 7.
Hess waived his preliminary hearing and entered pleas of not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
A psychiatric review was ordered.
Court records show that he’ll be back in court on June 19 and the results will be discussed.
Hess’ mental state at the time of the incident is addressed in the so-called insanity plea.
Hess would be committed for psychiatric treatment instead of prison if found mentally not responsible for the crimes.
According to the criminal complaint, Hess told police he needed money, and believed Miller had cash in his home.
