GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Local officials are predicting a fun “summer in the city” for Downtown Green Bay.
Downtown Green Bay’s “Summer in the City” Events Guide is hot off the presses and this year will once again feature some of everyone’s favorites, according to Jeff Mirkes, with Downtown Green Bay Inc.
“The Summer in the Park concerts, Saturday Farmer’s Market, Friday’s on the Fox, Summer Solstice over at Whitney Park,” he explains.
Some of the summer attractions are even garnishing statewide accolades.
Brian Johnson, with On Broadway, says not only is the Wednesday Farmer’s Market on Broadway Street a local favorite, but also is an award-winning event.
“One of the really great things about the farmer’s market is that it has been recognized as the 2018 Best Special Event in the state of Wisconsin by Wisconsin Main Street,” says Johnson.
The Saturday farmer’s market kicks-off next week on May 25, while the Wednesday edition on Broadway Street will debut this season on May 29.
There are plenty of new things planned for this summer, as well.
Johnson says a big focus for his team has been brainstorming ideas on how to create and mold events to fit the interests of everyone living in an increasingly diverse area.
He says, those events don’t necessarily need to be huge productions, but rather smaller gatherings that can be put-on throughout the week.
“Whether it be poetry readings, a theatrical performance, live music, a pop-up coffee bar,” explains Johnson. “We’re really trying to see what types of events can we execute on a small scale, not everything needs to be a huge festival.”
Also new this year is the guide itself and how it looks.
Mirkes says it has been condensed in physical size to better fit into kiosks, while the information contained inside is more expansive than ever.
You also won’t find the “dine and shop” section in this years edition, because it has been printed separately and will stand as its own guide.
“With our budgets we are able to produce so many more of both,” he explains. “They are very compatible, you will see them at businesses in a nice little rack right next to each other.”
All the officials gathered on Green Bay’s City Deck stressed that they have created a summer attraction atmosphere that should appeal to just about everyone.
“People are looking for a wide variety of opportunities and we are going to create those opportunities for them this summer,” explains Johnson.
The guide can be found throughout the downtown district and is available for download here.
