APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Police officers in Appleton were engaging with the community Wednesday afternoon.
From flashing lights and sirens to delicious food on the grill, Appleton’s Houdini Plaza was full of citizens ready to give thanks to Law Enforcement at the Appleton Police Explorer’s Brat Fry.
Hillary Webster of Appleton brought her two kids to give them the opportunity to meet officers and show her support for the Appleton Police Department through her time and money.
“I am always happy to support our police and law enforcement. I think they do a great job keeping us safe and I am always ready to give them any support they need.”
Four-year-old Gil Webster came away with lots of memories as he got to go inside a squad car.
“There was a lot of buttons, and guess what, there was a walkie talkie,” he said with a smile on his face. “I was turning the light on and I climbed in.”
Gil’s mom Hilary says too often kids are afraid of police officers, but not Gil.
“I am just thrilled that he has such a positive view of policemen and law enforcement in general.”
Gil was quick to point out his favorite part of the squad car.
“The cage is where they put the robbers.”
During the event, bicycle helmets were handed out, Courtesy of the Heaney Family Fund.
