OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – Today is day one of a twelve day partial highway closure in Oshkosh as crews look to smooth things out prior to a popular summer attraction.
The closure is taking place at WIS 26 between Oshkosh and the Fond du Lac/Winnebago County line.
That section of roadway will remain closed until noon, Friday, May 24.
“We’ll have a detour route in place that will follow US-Highway 41 down to US-151 and then west to Highway 26,” explains Project Manager Bill Bertrand.
Throughout the closure access to properties inside the work zone will be maintained.
“We’ll be closing it for twelve days as we replace three pipe culverts,” says Bertrand.
Crews also will be conducting milling operations, which is part of the WIS 26 resurfacing project.
The entire project is expected to wrap-up in mid-July of this year, while the remainder of the resurfacing project will be conducted under flagging operations.
“We are looking to get this done in advance of the EAA convention,” he says.
And if everything goes according to plan, motorists driving in for the attraction will notice a couple of improvements to that stretch of highway.
“It’ll be a smoother road, definitely,” says Bertrand. “From a safety standpoint, we are putting on center line rumble strips.”
