GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Green Bay School Board is expected to be addressing a situation where a student injured another student by biting her while the two were riding a school bus last week.
New procedures could be put in the place, but Green Bay School Board member Rhonda Sitnikau says right now she has a lot of questions that are not being answered.
“Is it a transportation issue, is it a bus company issue?”
She said she was told that not much information can be given due to the fact that an open investigation of the circumstance is going on.
A 10-year-old girl was bitten by another girl last Monday while they were riding a Lamers bus home from Langlade Elementary School in Allouez.
The incident allegedly happened right behind the bus driver. Sitnikau says she feels answers are needed as soon as possible.
“We haven’t had any kind of conversations around anything like this since I have been on the board.”
She says that is disturbing because it was reported that a similar incident occurred in the past.
“My question right now is what were the safety protocols that were put in place after the first instance as compared to now?”
She says she feels answers are needed as soon as possible.
Sitnikau says she was told the Board will discuss the situation in closed session.
She says all she wants to know is if all steps are currently in place to prevent a situation like this.
“That is not a hard question, that should be something that is in place and is very transparent.”
She says the board should also take an interest in the situation because it could also be a budget issue.
“Are we allocating enough support for safety in the first place, that is something that we have to go back to.”
The school set up arrangements for the girl to travel to and from school in a school district transport van with just the driver and her adult, special education helper aboard.
