GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Mother’s Day is about recognizing mom’s for all the work they do.
But when looking for gifts, it might be difficult to choose just one.
So we asked moms what they’d like, instead.
“One of my sons he sent me a box of chocolates and I love chocolates so I’ve been eating those,” said Brenda Simms, a mom in Menasha. “Can’t be disappointed with that!”
“Just spending time with my kids,” said Jodi Hornick, a Peshtigo mom.
But when we asked Hornick’s daughter to find out what gifts are in store for her mom, she says flowers will be this year’s treat.
It’s people like Hornick’s daughter, Sophi, that business owner Linda Lambert is getting ready for.
“There’s a lot of men with their kids and actually there’s a lot of women in here coming in too, to point out what they want.,” said Lambert.
She owns Wery’s Flowers in Green Bay, and says a lot of work goes into keeping shrubs on the shelves.
“We have a lot of stuff out here,” Lambert said. “We double stock everything and make it really pretty.”
The National Retail Federation says people will spend a record $25 billion this Mother’s Day. That’s up from the $23.1 billion spent in 2018.
At Green Bay Botanical Gardens, employees are busy with their own blooms.
“It’s a lot of bulbs to put in the ground,” said executive director Susan Garot. “But it really pays off when you get into spring time.”
If you visit either place, you’ll see lots of color.
“It’s a great way to spend with your mom and just enjoy nature,” Garot said. “Get away from the screen and take a stroll on a beautiful day.”
The garden offers free admission for moms on Sunday, while Wery’s flowers will offer a 10% discount.
