The Return to 'Nam Old Glory Honor Flight shared another special moment from their current two-week journey to Vietnam. Vietnam Veteran Jim Cook passed before he could take a scheduled honor flight to Washington D.C. His family asked Old Glory Honor Flight to spread his ashes. The organization posted this to Facebook today:
“Honored to take part in spreading the ashes of Vietnam veteran Jim Cook. Jim served in the 571 Ordinance Co in Dong Ha in Quang Tri.
Jim suffered from ptsd his whole life and NEVER talked about it. Jim was scheduled to go on an honor flight to DC but sadly passed away just before he had the opportunity.
Jim’s family asked we spread some of his ashes close to the area he served. Our local guides provided a traditional Vietnamese burial ceremony; we burned (fake) money, clothing and food to honor Jim according to their beliefs. The vets saluted and we left an OGHF challenge coin behind.”

“These are my Dad's ashes, and I am so grateful that you all took the time to honor him in this way. He was a very proud Veteran and going back to Vietnam is something we all needed for him. He can finally be at peace from the demons that haunted him for more than 5 decades. Thank you all so much, for this, and for your service and sacrifices.” ~ Jim Cook's daughter Amy responding on Facebook.
Rest in Peace Hero!
