APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – One day after beating 7 candidates to win the Democrat primary for Governor, Tony Evers was in Appleton and wasted no time calling out the man he will face in November.
Evers brought up the issues that he says Wisconsin wants to see changes with, one of those being in education. He says claims that Governor Walker is an “Education Governor” is laughable.
“He has done more to devastate public schools K through 12 and frankly higher education, than any other governor in history. Education Governor is not even close to being true.”
He says while many have praised Governor Walker for having one of the lowest unemployment rates, it comes with a cost.
“2.9 percent is a pretty figure, but we are getting smaller and smaller. Thousands of people in the state have to work two or three jobs just to put a meal on the table. We have to make sure we don’t continue to send people away from Wisconsin.”
He says that comes with better-paying jobs, buy said FoxConn is not the answer with the way it was designed.
“I believe FoxConn is the worst deal in the State of Wisconsin history. There are many people in this room and I bet all of them could have done a better deal than what FoxConn did.”
He said if elected, he would renegotiate some of the deal.
“They should be paying living wages, and there are no benchmarks for FoxConn. That is morally wrong. The minimum that we should do is make sure that all people in the state of Wisconsin get a crack at that money.”
The democrat candidate for governor also said everything is on the table to get money for infrastructure, but said claims by Republicans that he would enact a high gas tax are a lie.
