GREENVILLE (WTAQ-WLUK) – Appleton International Airport will appear blue every night this month, supporting Autism Awareness Month.
They will also be hosting “Wings for Autism” giving children with autism, the chance to go through the motions of taking a flight to a destination.
Officials say these events are a helpful process for children with autism and help them get familiar with the steps that are taken if they are going to fly somewhere.
“People living with autism want to be included: they want to have friends, they want to have a job, they want to live independently, they want to be loved and have relationships just like any other human being,” said Shannon Knall, chair of Autism Speaks Wisconsin tells Fox 11.
Officials with Autism Speaks Wisconsin say they hope by spreading awareness, more parents and children will seek help to understand autism and learn how to function in the world.
