APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Officers are looking for the man who dropped off two suspicious packages at the post office on Appleton’s Franklin Street.
A postal worker, who was in the post office’s outdoor employee area, reported that the man left the packages with him around midnight Monday.
The worker called police when he saw wires inside one package, which the man wanted shipped to Denver, Colorado.
While employees were moved away, no residences were evacuated.
The bomb squad determined one box was empty, with the other containing electronic items (a DVD player and cords from the DVD player).
Police Sergeant Dave Lund says the suspect is described as “male, white, in his 50’s, having a scruffy appearance, unshaven, approximately 5’11”, 270 pounds, wearing blue jeans, a green, military-style coat, a black beanie, and a red scarf.”
Lund notes investigators want to “find out who was this individual, what their intent was, why they left that there. If their intent was to create a disturbance, we would look at some potential charges.”
Anyone with information can call Appleton Police at 920-832-5500.
