KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ) – More details have been released about Saturday’s fatal car fire on a set of Kaukauna railroad tracks.
Investigators believe the elderly female driver may have become disoriented, mistaking the tracks along the Fox River near Holly Court for the road.
Officers say it’s possible the tires were flattened, causing sparks between the car’s wheels and the tracks.
Those sparks may have started the fire, keeping the woman from escaping.
Skeletal remains were found inside the car.
Investigators do not believe there was anyone else in the vehicle.
The victim’s name is not expected to be released until the identity can be confirmed, which could take several weeks.
