BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Residents throughout Northeast Wisconsin are being warned to watch out for scammers.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Ashwaubenon Public Safety are both warning of scams.
Sheriff’s officials say they’ve received several reports of people getting telephone calls where the person has threatened to harm them or their families if they do not purchase large amounts of iTunes cards.
In some cases, they say people have received calls or voicemails from scammers who claim to be a hit man or say they will hire a hit man if the purchase is not made.
Ashwaubenon authorities say they’ve received several reports of scammers claiming to be with the IRS or a legitimate company.
The scammers have been known to generate real phone numbers and caller ID information.
In both cases, authorities urge people not to give any money or personal information to the scammer. Anyone who believes they are in danger should call local law enforcement.
