GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The injury bug bit the Green Bay Packers again, but the turnover bug bit the Chicago Bears and helped the Packers to a 35-14 win on Thursday night.
QB Aaron Rodgers and company drove for a touchdown to WR Davante Adams on their first offensive possession.
On the Bears’ first play from scrimmage, QB Mike Glennon was strip sacked by OLB Clay Matthews, with the fumble recovered by Green Bay well within the red zone. The sack put Matthews atop the list as the all-time sack leader in Packers history.
Rodgers connected with Cobb soon afterwards and it was 14-0 early on. A 47-minute delay for lightning seemed to be to Chicago’s advantage, allowing the to settle down and rebuild a gameplan, but it was not to be.
Glennon was responsible for three more turnovers, one on a fumbled snap to his knees, and two interceptions by a Packers secondary which had yet to record one this season, one by FS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and one by DB Kentrell Brice.
Rodgers had an atypical stat line, throwing for only 179 yards, but finding the endzone 4 times, including two to WR Jordy Nelson.
Injuries continue to plague the Packers. RB Ty Montgomery suffered from broken ribs in the first quarter and have to leave the game. His replacement, RB Jamaal Williams, went out with a knee injury shortly after entering, leaving RB Aaron Jones to take most of the snaps.
Perhaps most significant was Davante Adams, who was taken to the hospital after being hit under the helmet with a shot from Bears MLB Danny Trevathan. Adams had feeling in all of his extremities and was conscious in the hospital.
With the win, the Packers are 95-94-6 all-time against the Bears, the first time the Packers have led the series since 1933.
With plenty of injuries to account for, the Green and Gold will take the extra rest to prepare for a trip to Dallas and a date with the Cowboys on Sunday, October 8th.
