GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A new NFL season is about to begin, and the committee for Super Bowl 52 is already encouraging Packers fans to start making plans to attend the big game.
No, the sales pitch has nothing to do with the team’s chances of participating. It’s all about the location: Minneapolis.
“It’ll be ten days of activities across the Twin Cities, celebrating football, food, concerts, and fun” says Andrea Mokros of the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee.
Mokros spoke to WLUK….she’s in Green Bay this weekend selling Packers fans on why they should start booking their trip west.
“It’s been 26 years since Green Bay fans have had a Super Bowl in driving distance, in their own backyard, so we want folks to come out and be a part of it, whether the Packers are a part of the game or not.”
If the Packers aren’t part of the game, it’s a deal breaker for many fans.
“Because I don’t like the Vikings and I don’t want to go to their stadium.” said Sara Daleidon, a 12-year-old from Little Falls, Minnesota.
“I’m not that excited about going to the Super Bowl unless I got to watch the Packers.” said Dean Traun of Middleton.
Ticket prices for the game at the new U.S. Bank Stadium haven’t been released yet.
However, Seat Geeks says recently the average Super Bowl ticket price has been between $2,500 and $3,000.
Tickets are expected to go on sale this fall, but Mokros says the Twin Cities’ 41,000 hotel rooms are already filling up.
“It’s obviously pretty booked for that prime game time from Thursday to Sunday, but those first six days, there’s still a lot of availability for folks to make those plans to come up.”
Mokros suggests a day trip for those wanting just a taste of the action.
She promises there will be plenty to do, even in the place Super Bowl organizers are referring to as the bold north.
“It’s not that often that we get a cold weather Super Bowl and we’re going to embrace it.” The Super Bowl committee suggests fans looking to travel to Minneapolis for the game to visit its web site.
