GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Even though he has not been convicted in the case, a Green Bay police officer has been fired for allegedly forging his ex-wife’s signature.
The city’s Police and Fire Commission decided Thursday to fire Michael Jeanquart.
He had been on paid leave since the department learned of the investigation, and had previously turned in his gun, badge and police ID.
In its decision, the Police and Fire Commission wrote:
Even without a criminal conviction for the actions complained of, the actions of Officer Jeanquart have impaired the good order of the department and impaired his ability to be a law enforcement officer for the department into the future. Given the serious and enduring impact Officer Jeanquart’s actions have on integrity and credibility, together with the enduring negative impact of his actions on the good order of the department and with other members of the department, the Commission finds that the proposed discipline reasonably relates to the seriousness of the alleged violation and that just cause exists for Officer Jeanquart’s termination from service with the department.
Prosecutors say Jeanquart forged the signature of his ex-wife on the title of their 2010 Kia Forte after she told him not to.
The complaint says the officer admitted to a detective that he signed his ex-wife’s name after he found a buyer for the car. It says he needed money quickly.
She told the detective she didn’t object to him selling the car, and would have signed the title when she returned from a trip to Florida, but objected to him signing her name.
Jeanquart has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of forgery and having a counterfeit certificate of title.
His next court hearing is set for Sept. 12th.
