SEYMOUR, WI (WTAQ) – A 34-year-old Illinois man could face a variety of charges after he reportedly drove recklessly throughout Outagamie County.
Sergio Rios is being held in the county’s jail on charges including: Recklessly Endangering Safety, Eluding an Officer, Criminal Damage to Property, and First Offense OWI.
Sheriff’s officials received a report around 11:57 am of a vehicle driving recklessly in the parking lot of a new construction for Lang’s Landscaping, N7223 Highway 47, in the Town of Black Creek.
When stopped by construction workers, Rios allegedly threatened them with a knife before leaving southbound on Highway 47.
Officers say Rios then stopped at Ron’s Service in the Village of Black Creek, where he started punching a gas pump and throwing water around.
When an employee confronted Rios, he reportedly again threatened the knife before leaving eastbound on Highway 54 at speeds witnesses say were in excess of 100 miles per hour.
A Seymour Police officer observed Rios’ vehicle and tried stopping him.
Rios allegedly refused to stop, entering the grassy area in front of Seymour High School, nearly striking an officer.
He reportedly continued to drive recklessly in the parking lot when an officer decided to stop Rios’ vehicle by striking it with his squad car, citing plenty of students being on the grounds as school registration was taking place.
Rios was taken into custody without incident.
No injuries have been reported.
