GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – An annual event helps roughly 3,000 Brown County elementary and middle school students stock up for the coming school year.
The Service League of Green Bay held its annual ‘back to school store’ at East High School on Wednesday.
Marketing Director Nicole Baumann says students who qualify for free and reduced lunches are able to get school supplies, dental and vision screenings, and clothing.
“They get to pick out whatever clothes they want. For a lot of the kids, this is the only time of year they get brand new clothes or brand new shoes.”
Maria Garcia is grateful her son Jonn was able to take part.
“Sometimes you just can’t get enough for them, or you don’t have the funds to get it.”
This was the event’s 25th year.
Students are able to sign up for the application-based program as early as April.
