NEW LONDON, WI (WTAQ) – A local municipality is one step closer to implementing a $20 wheel tax.
New London’s city council has voted 9-1 to enact the tax, which would take effect January 1.
A required second reading and council vote is expected to happen September 12.
City officials say the $180,000 the tax would raise annually would fund transportation projects.
It would be levied on all cars registered within city limits, in addition to the state wheel tax.
