MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) Milwaukee police say 6-year-old Justin Evans Jr. is the city’s youngest homicide victim of the year. They released the identity of the little boy Sunday, a day after he was shot and killed when he and his stepfather were preparing for a fishing trip near Green Bay.
Evans was killed outside the home in the 3600 block of North 23rd Street around 6pm Saturday. He is the fourth juvenile homicide victim in Milwaukee in 2017, and the 64th homicide in the city.
Community members and family friends rallied in the neighborhood yesterday. A makeshift memorial of flowers, candles, and stuffed animals has been growing outside the family’s home. The family has started a GoFundMe page to pay for funeral expenses.
The boy’s uncle James Brown tweeted: “If you are the person that took my nephew’s life, imagine the hurt and pain that you put him through. A bullet in his body. A six-year-old. If you can live with yourself, it’s a cold world. All we’re asking for is justice for Justin. We didn’t ask for this. We didn’t want this. Now we have to go through this. We want the killer to stand up and own up to his mistakes.”
Milwaukee PD says no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
An autopsy in planned on Monday.
Police are still investigating two other unsolved juvenile homicides. 16-year-old Emani Murry and 14-year-old Chrisima Murry were both shot in separate incidents earlier this year.
