KIEL, WI (WTAQ) – Two teenagers are suspected in the June vandalism of Kiel’s Kiwanis Park.
Investigators say the 14 and 16-year-olds were identified through a tip to police.
The pair allegedly painted vulgar and racist graffiti in the park’s restroom and another building.
City Administrator Dennis Dedering says there are “toilets that need work, one of the urinals, and there’s graffiti over all the walls, I guess, so we’re going to have somebody going in and doing a massive cleanup.”
Police Chief Dave Funkhouser says the teens have been released to their parents but notes charges are likely.
“We’re doing more followup on the case. Once we get our complete investigation done, we’ll send those out to the juvenile authorities.”
Dedering says “as soon as we get the o.k. from the police department, we’ll start repairing the bathroom damage.”
That restroom remains closed.
Damage is estimated around $1,500.
Since the suspects are minors, the city will likely have to flip the bill.
