BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – If you saw a tree planted in the Brown County area Wednesday, it might have been courtesy of the Green Bay Packers.
A total of 477 trees were planted in 17 area communities as part of the Packers’ “First Downs for Trees” program.
The organization donates the same number of trees as it had first downs in the previous regular season.
Wisconsin Public Service’s Greg Kirchmayer says it is an effort to “reduce the carbon footprint for their jet flights to away games. The average NFL team puts out about 450,000,000 tons of carbon, so planting trees is a way to reduce that carbon footprint.”
Through the program’s seven years, over 4,000 trees have been planted.
