West De Pere High School has asked the W.I.A.A. for permission to leave the Bay Conference, of which they were a charter member, and move to the Fox River Classic Conference for all sports.
Athletic Director Scott Eggart made the request at an area meeting this week. Eggart says enrollment is mushrooming in the West De Pere district and it won’t be long before they are the largest school among the nine currently included in the Bay Conference.
Eggart also feels the move would be in the best interest of the school competitively and reunite West De Pere with former conference rivals De Pere and Ashwaubenon who joined the FRCC in a realingment 10 years ago.
The requested move could complicate matters for both conferences, leaving the Bay with just eight teams and increasing the FRCC number to 11. That could require another school to leave or one more added.
The W.I.A.A. has taken the request under advisement.
