Under apparent immense pressure from RNC chair Reince Priebus and others, GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump endorsed House Speaker Paul Ryan in his re-election bid. The Friday announcement at the KI Center in downtown Green Bay elicited, according to those in attendance, cheers and boos.
Nehlen and Trump had somewhat courted each other and those who are supporting Nehlen, who is a bona fide crank, must feel some sense of betrayal by Trump's endorsement of Ryan.
Trump has for months painted Ryan as part of the Establishment that has ruined America. What do his supporters think of him backing down now? Based on listener emails I get a large swath of Trump's base has no use for Ryan.
Trump, Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin and others have gone after Trump and Coulter and Palin have actively campaigned for both Nehlen and Trump. Palin tweeted out support for Nehlen following the Trump endorsement. This is the same Sarah Palin that gave an incoherent, rambling endorsement of Trump earlier this year. Talk about a party divided.
