APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Authorities have identified the police officer, bystander and suspect involved in a fatal shooting over the weekend in Appleton.
According to the Appleton Police Department, Officer Stephanie Wiener and Andrew Maltbey were shot with Wiener’s gun during a struggle with shoplifting suspect Marcus D. Felton. The 23-year-old Felton, an Appleton native, then turned the gun on himself.
Wiener was released from the hospital on Tuesday. She has been with the Appleton Police Department since January of last year. Videos of Wiener being released from the hospital was posted on Facebook.
The 23-year-old Maltbey, also of Appleton, was 1 of 2 people who saw Wiener and Felton struggling and stopped to help. He was released from the hospital on Sunday.
Appleton police officials say the shootout happened just after midnight Saturday in the 900 block of S. Kensington Drive, after two gas station thefts. One of the thefts was not far from the shootout on Kensington, the other on E. Newberry Street.
The Green Bay Police Department is investigating the incident.
Appleton police says Wiener will not be granting interviews and also say they have asked Maltbey not to make public comments as the incident remains under investigation.
